Standing Up for Animals When They Need Us Most
Animal cruelty is often hidden behind closed doors — neglect, illegal breeding, abandonment, physical abuse, confinement — and frequently goes unnoticed without intervention.
In April 2023, Second Chance Sanctuary established its dedicated Cruelty Case Cell, working at the intersection of rescue, rehabilitation, legal enforcement, and community education to protect vulnerable animals across Bengaluru.
What We Do
Our Cruelty Case Cell responds to:
- Animal abuse and neglect
- Illegal breeding facilities
- Animal abandonment
- Confinement and hoarding
- Failure to provide medical treatment
- Human-animal conflict
- Illegal relocation of community animals
- Other welfare violations
Every complaint is assessed individually to determine the right course of action.

Creating Lasting Change
Not every complaint requires confiscation. Many cases are resolved through owner counselling, education, mediation, and follow-up visits — creating sustainable change for both animals and people, rather than responding only to emergencies.
Our Impact
Since launch, the Cruelty Case Cell has become one of Bengaluru’s most important animal welfare response initiatives, having:
- Addressed more than 430 cruelty complaints
- Worked across 39 localities
- Rescued more than 700 animals from abusive situations
- Led 28 major interventions involving 98 animals rescued from severe neglect and illegal breeding facilities
